Ribosomes are naked ribonucleoprotein particles. Ribosomes of eukaryotes are of 80S type whereas prokaryotes have 70S type of ribosomes.
On the basis of sedimentation coefficient, the larger and smaller subunits of prokaryotic ribosomes are 50S and 30S. The larger subunit has 23S and 5S while smaller subunit has 16S rRNA. Besides rRNA, ribosome has a number of protein molecules.
