Question

Which plant hormone makes a stem bend toward light ?

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

Auxin is the plant hormone which makes a stem bend towards light. Auxin promotes stem elongation, inhibit growth of lateral buds thus maintaining the apical dominance. It is produced in stems, buds and root tips. Auxin is a plant hormone produced in stem tip that produces cell elongation. Auxin moves to the darker side of the plant causing the cells to grow there larger than the cells on the lighter side of the plant. This produces a curving of the plant stem towards light which is known as phototropism.

Thanks and regards.
