Who coined the term 'cell'?

Open in App
Solution

The cell was first discovered and named by Robert Hooke in 1665. He observed slices of cork under a simple magnifying device. In his magnifying device, he saw compartment-like structures similar to small rooms or cells of the monastery that he once lived. Hence, the term 'cell' was coined.
