Solution

Dear student,

Maximilian Robespierre was the leader of the Jacobin club representing less prosperous section of the French society. He took control of France after the fall of monarchy. He ensured extreme form of equality among the masses, and followed them relentlessly.

List of steps taken by Robespierre to implement the concept of equality in France:

a. Robespierre’s government issued laws imposing maximum ceiling on wages and prices. Meat and bread were rationed.
b.The prices of foodgrains were fixed by the government.
c.The use of more expensive white flour was restricted. It was mandatory for all citizens to eat the pain d’égalité (equality bread), a loaf made of whole wheat.
d. Equality was practised through forms of speech and address. Instead of the using traditional Monsieur (Sir) and Madame (Madam) all French men and women were considered as Citoyen and Citoyenne (Citizen).
e. Churches were closed and their buildings got transformed into barracks or offices.

Regards.
