Solution

Chlorophyll pigments:

  1. Chlorophyll is the pigment that is responsible for trapping sunlight for photosynthesis.
  2. This pigment is also responsible for the green color of the plants.
  3. But, there are other pigments present which can also trap sunlight for photosynthesis.
  4. Such pigments are Chlorophyll a (bright or blue-green color), chlorophyll b (yellow-green color), xanthophylls (yellow color), and carotenoids (yellow to yellow-orange color).
  5. Each of the pigments absorbs the sunlight of different wavelengths.
  6. The dominancy of other pigments gives the plants different colors other than green but, contains chlorophyll for photosynthesis.
