Why do rays in a parallel beam of incident light not remain parallel to each other after reflection from a rough surface?

Solution

The reflected rays are not parallel to each other for parallel incident rays after reflection from a rough surface. This happens because of the presence of irregular microscopic surfaces in the rough surface. Hence, the parallel incident rays reflect in different directions.
