Question

Why do solids have a definite volume ?

Open in App
Solution

  • In the Solids, the molecules are tightly packed.
  • Due to tight packing, the internuclear space between the molecules is very less, so, molecules attract each other with very strong forces.
  • The intermolecular force of attraction holds the molecules of solids at a particular place.
  • So, due to the fixed position of molecules, solids have definite volume and shape.
