Question

Why do we consider only compunds and not elements to study solid State?

Solution

First of all, you should now that amongst pure elements only a few metals can form a crystalline structure while a wide variety of salts are there which form crystalline structures. Also, the properties of a particular type of structure and the study doesn't depend on the type of atoms forming the structure but on the type of structure itself.
