Why does thunder mostly occur during thunderstorms but does not occur during a calm and cloudy day?

Dear Student,
During thunderstorm there is strong lightening due to which charges jumps from one cloud to another
or to earth surface so that there is a big sound ( thunder ) but in calm and cloudy days there is no passes
of charges from one cloud to another cloud .
