Question

Why is ionization dangerous?

Open in App
Solution

Ionization:

When a neutral atom loses or gains electrons in order to gain stability, ions are formed.

  • When the ionization dosage is exceedingly high, people can suffer from two sorts of injury.
  • It has the potential to induce tissue damage and cancer.
  • Tissue injury occurs when molecules are removed from cells and the cells are unable to function.
  • This leads to radiation sickness, radiation burns, organ failure, and death.
  • Cancer develops when cells are damaged yet still function normally, but the damage to the genes causes uncontrolled proliferation of the cancer cells.
