Why is less effort needed to lift a load over an inclined plane as compared to lifting the load directly?


Solution

For an inclined plain mechanical advantage =L/E, where L is the load and E is the effort.
L/E =length of the inclined plain (l)/height (h) ;
which is >1(since l>h)
Therefore effort<load.
hence less effort is
 Required because mechanical advantage increases.
