Question

Why is the reactivity of halogen atom in isopropyl chloride less reactive than in isopropyl bromide?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student...

Isopropyl chloride is less reactive than isopropyl bromide because...

Chlorine is more electronegative than bromine... Chlorine attract the bonded electrons more towards it, form C-Cl bond which is more stable than C-Br bond...
Since C-Cl bond in isopropyl chloride is more stable it is less reactive
