Question

Why is the second law of thermodynamics called directional law?

Open in App
Solution

Second law of thermodynamics:

  1. The second law of thermodynamics states that the entropy in an isolated system always increases.
  2. It can be stated as “heat flows from hotter body to colder body and never the way around”.
  3. This law states the direction of heat flow and is therefore known as the directional law.

Hence, the second law of thermodynamics is called directional law.
