Question

Why nitrogen gas is used in packaging of food?

Open in App
Solution

Nitrogen gas is present in the maximum amount which is 78% but as nitrogen has a triple bond within its molecule and it needs very high energy to break this bond so it remains in the same state as inert and reduces the activity of oxygen with other substances.

In the packaging of food, nitrogen gas is filled in a packet so that it maintains the inertness and the food will not be spoiled by oxygen and it remains fresh.
