Question

Why nitrogen is less reactive at room temperature?

Open in App
Solution

Due to the presence of triple bond between the two nitrogen atoms the bond dissociation energy of N2(941.1 kJ mol1) is very high therefore nitrogen is less reactive at room temperature. However nitrogen reacts with metals at higher temperature to form nitrides.
