Question

Why should we remove an electron from a gaseous atom?

Open in App
Solution

Because when an atom is in gaseous state, in order to remove the electron, only the ionisation energy will be required.
While in any other state, the energy required for phase change should also be given in surplus to ionisation energy for the task. So the energy required would be minimum in case of gaseous system.
