Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born in a village called Talwandi near Lahore, which is now known as Nankana Sahib. Guruji's mother's name was Tripta, and his father Mehta Kalu was a Patwari who belonged to the Bedi Kshatriya family. He also had a sister named Nanaki.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji exhibited several qualities as a kid that surprised a lot of his relatives and villagers. He was exceptionally bright and serious as a kid. He learnt Devnagri and Math from the Pathshala of Pandit Gopal. He studied Sanskrit under Pandit Brij Lal and Persian under Moulavi Qutb-ud-Din.
