Sir M. Vishveshwaraiah is regarded as the sculptor and creator of the Modern Mysuru. In 1912, he was appointed as the Diwan of Mysuru. Some of his achievements are as follows:
  • Sir M Vishveshwaraiah famously remarked, "Industrialize or perish". In Mysuru, he established the 'Sandalwood Factory,' a soap factory, and the Central Industrial Workshop; in Bengaluru, he established leather processing and metal factories.
  • Mysuru Chambers of Commerce and Sectors was founded in Bengaluru in 1913 to boost trade and commerce, and Mysuru Bank was formed in 1913 to promote the progress of these industries.
  • He made primary education compulsory and stressed on technical education too. University of Mysuru was founded in 1916.
  • At Hebbal, an agricultural school was established.
  • Railway lines were laid between Mysuru and Arasikere; Bowringpete and Kolar.
