Respiration and photosynthesis balance the amount of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the air. Carbon dioxide exhaled by animals during respiration is used by the green plants during photosynthesis, and oxygen released by the plants during the process of photosynthesis is inhaled by animals for respiration.
