Solution

The reaction of hydrochloric acid with:

(a) Bleaching powder:

CaOCl2(s) + 2HCl(aq) → CaCl2(aq) + Cl2(g) + H2O(l)

(b) Lead nitrate solution:

Pb(NO3)2(aq) + 2HCl(aq) → PbCl2(s) + 2HNO3(aq)

(c) Manganese dioxide:

MnO2(s) + 4HCl(aq) → MnCl2 (aq) + 2H2O(l) + Cl2(g)
Manganese Manganese
dioxide chloride
(black)

(d) Oxide of lead (red lead):

Pb3O4(s) + 8HCl(aq) → 3PbCl2 (aq) + 4H2O(l) + Cl2(g)
