Question

write the condition when a second order reaction becomes kinetically of first order

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

A second order reaction can become first order if one of the reacting species is taken in excess such that its concentration remains practically unchanged during the course of reaction.
For ex: CH3COOC2H5 + H2O --> CH3COOH + C2H5OH
If H2O is taken in excess then, the reaction can be first order.
