Question

Write the following equation in ionic form.
MnO2+4HClMnCl2+2H2O+Cl2.

Open in App
Solution

In the given equation HCl and MnCl2 are ionic in nature while MnO2 H2O and Cl2 are non ionic nature. So the compounds with ionic nature will be written as
MnO2+4H++4Cl=Mn2++2Cl+2H2O+Cl2.
2Cl ions are common on both sides; so these are cancelled. The desired ionic equation reduces to,
MnO2+4H++2Cl=Mn2++2H2O+Cl2.
