Question

write three different chemical reactions showing the conversion of ethanoic acid to sodium ethanoate. Write the name of the residents and the products other than ethanoic acid and sodium ethanoate in each case

Solution

(i). CH3COOH + NaOH → CH3COONa + H2O

Reactants - CH3COOH and NaOH. Product - CH3COONa  + H2O

(ii). CH3COOH + NaHCO3 →CH3COONa + H2O + CO2

Reactant -CH3COOH and NaHCO3. Product - CH3COOHNa, H2O and CO2

(iii) 2 CH3COOH + Na2CO3 → 2 CH3COONa + CO2 + H2O

Reactant - CH3COOH and Na2CO3. product - CH3COONa, H2O  and CO2

Yes sodium metal can also be reacted with acetic acid to form sodium ethanoate and hydrogen gas:
2 Na + 2 CH3COOH --> H2 + 2 CH3COONa
