Question

You know that words like ‘friends’ and ‘ends’ rhyme with each other. But do you know that complete lines can also rhyme with one another? For example, lines 1 and 3 in stanza 1 rhyme with each other. Both the lines have the same structure. This is called parallelism. Sometimes, they carry the same theme too - like these two lines. But they can contrast with each other too. There is such a pair in this poem. Pick it out.

Solution

"On the board we are enemies"- "On the board there's never peace" - Both these lines from stanza 4 carry the same theme and are an example of parallelism.
"It's more like a war or a fight" - "So we can stay friends day and night" - Both these lines from stanza 3 are an example of parallelism and they carry the opposite theme.
