Question

A rectangular body of dimensions ( l×b×h ) 2m×3m×4m is acted upon by a force of 50Non the top surface. Calculate the pressure due to the force on that surface.

Solution

Step1: Given data

A body of dimensions ( l×b×h ) is 2m×3m×4m.

Force, f=50N

Step2: Formula used

The pressure is defined as the force per unit area which is perpendicular to the surface. The S.I. unit of pressure is Pascal (Pa).

P=FA[whereP=pressure,F=force,A=area]

Step3: Calculating pressure

Areaofrectangle=l×bA=2m×3mA=6m2

Substituting the given value of force and area in the pressure formula

P=FAP=506P=8.34Pa

Hence, the pressure due to the force on that surface will be 8.34Pa.
