Solution

Step 1:Find amount of discount

We have given that:

The cost of three books are given below:

Rs. 450, Rs. 520, and Rs. 250

Discount rate on all the books sold=10%

Total cost of three books
=450+520+250=Rs1220

Step 2: Find net amount paid by Dilshan to store

Discount given by store for all the three books=10%×Costofthreebooks
=10%×1120=10100x1220=RS122

So, the amount Dilshan need to pay after the discount is given is 1220-122=Rs1098
It is given that if the total bill after the initial discount is more than or equal to Rs. 1000 then, there will be an additional discount of 5% on the total bill:

Additional discount =5100x1098=Rs54.90

So, the amount Dilshan need to pay after additional discount would be 109854.90=Rs1043.10

So, the total amount Dilshan was able to save is given by 12201043.10=Rs.176.90

Hence, Dilshan was able to save Rs176.90
