A bus starting from rest moves with a uniform acceleration of 0.1m/s2 for 2mins. Find

  1. the speed acquired,
  2. the distance traveled.

Initial velocity, u=0

Acceleration, a=0.1m/s2

Time, t=2mins=120s

Step 2: Formula used

The first equation of motion, v=u+at

The third equation of motion,v2=u2+2as

Step 3: Determine the speed acquired

Let the final velocity be v

Using the first equation of motion,

v=u+at=0+(0.1)(120)=12m/s

Step 4: Determine the distance travelled

Let the distance travelled be s

Using the third equation of motion,

v2=u2+2as122=02+2(0.1)(s)144=0+0.2ss=1440.2s=720m

Therefore,

  1. The speed acquired is 12m/s
  2. The distance travelled is 720m
