Introduction of a new species may affect the existence of local species due to competition.The members of the species may compete for food and other resources with the organisms of the ecosystem. Which may result in rapid decrease or extinction of a species which is important for the ecosystem to remain stable.

The new species will affect the local species in the following ways

  • There may be competition between them for food, shelter.
  • They may prey on the local species.
  • May prevent local species for reproduction.
  • May be change in food chain or food web.
