Open in App
Solution

Let x be the number.

Increase in the number =20% of x

=20100×x

=15×x=x5

Increased number=x+x5

=5x+x5=6x5

The resulting number decreased by 20%

Decrease in the number =20% of 6x5

=15×6x5=6x25

New number =6x5-6x25

=30x-6x25

=24x25

The net decrease =x-24x25

=25x-24x25=x25

Net % decrease =x25x×100

=x25×1x×100=4%

Hence, the net percent decrease =4%.
