Let $x$ be the cost price of the pack.

Selling price of the pack $=₹42$

Profit$=5\%ofx$$=\frac{5}{100}\times x$

Applying the equation, $Sellingprice–Costprice=Profit$

$\Rightarrow 42–x=\frac{5}{100}\times x$

$\Rightarrow 42–x=\frac{1}{20}\times x$

$\Rightarrow 42=x+\frac{x}{20}$

$\Rightarrow 42=\frac{20x+x}{20}$

$\Rightarrow 42=\frac{21x}{20}$

$\Rightarrow x=42\times \frac{20}{21}$

$\Rightarrow x=2\times 20=40$

Hence, the Cost price of the soap pack is$₹40$
