Solution

Piezometer:

  1. A piezometer is either an instrument used to measure liquid pressure in a system by measuring the height to which a column of the liquid increases against gravity, or a device that measures groundwater pressure at a specific point.
  2. A piezometer is designed to measure static pressures, and since it is not oriented into the fluid flow, it varies from a pitot tube.

Uses of piezometer:

  1. A piezometer is the simplest form of manometer which is designed for the measurement of gauge pressure.
  2. This manometer has an open end shown above and one end linked to the place where the pressure will be measured.
  3. Since one end is exposed to the atmosphere, it cannot be used to measure the gas pressure, because gas can not form a free atmosphere surface, it cannot be used to measure high pressures in lighter liquids.

Hence, a piezometer is used to measure the pressure of water of a vessel.
