A room is 4 m long and 3 m 50 cm wide. Howe many square metres of carpet is needed to cover the floor of the room?

length of carpet = 4m

breadth of carpet = b = 3 m 50 cm = 3.50 m

We have to determine the area in square meters

Solution

We know that area of rectangle is given by

Area of rectangle = length × width

Area = l × b =

 4 × 3.50

=14 m2

Answer

The area of carpet=14 m2
