Solution

Sound waves produced from rubber

  1. Sound waves are produced due to the vibration of bodies. So vibration of bodies is the cause sound wave.
  2. Rubber is an elastic material.
  3. If we stretched a rubber band, work is done on it, this work is stored in the rubber band as potential energy (strain energy).
  4. When we release the rubber band the stored potential energy is converted into kinetic energy.
  5. Due to kinetic energy stored on it, the rubber molecules start vibrating, due to vibration, the sound waves will be produced.

Thus, when a rubber band tied between 2 ends is stretched and then left, a sound is heard due to the vibrations of the rubber molecules.
