Solution

Hydraulic compression:

  1. When a body is placed in a fluid under high pressure, a perpendicular force will be exerted on the body from all sides, this force is called hydraulic compression.
  2. Due to hydraulic compression, the body wants to decrease its actual volume without changing any geometrical change.
  3. The hydraulic compression is a restoring force, in absence of liquid the body gets its actual volume.

Diagram:

Therefore, a solid sphere placed in a fluid under high-pressure experiences hydraulic compression.
