Solution

To find the mean value,

Let use the direct method because the numerical value of fi and xi are small.

Find the midpoint of the given interval using the formula.

Midpoint(xi)=(upperlimit+lowerlimit)2

No. of plants (Class interval)No. of houses Frequency (fi)Mid-point (xi)fixi
0-2111
2-4236
4-6155
6-85735
8-106954
10-1221122
12-1431339
Sum fi=20Sum fixi=162

Mean==fixifi=16220=8.1

Hence, the number of plants per house is 8.1.
