Solution

The main features of Rutherford's nuclear concept of the atom are:

  • The atom of an element consists of a small positively charged ‘nucleus’ situated at the center of the atom and carries almost the entire mass of the atom. and the nucleus consists of protons.
  • The electrons are distributed in the empty space of the atom around the nucleus in different concentric circular paths, called orbits.
  • The number of electrons in orbits is equal to the number of positive charges (protons) in the nucleus. Hence, the atom is electrically neutral.

Therefore, according to Rutherford, the atom consists of the following two parts electrons and protons.
