Account for the following: Iron on reaction with Hcl forms FeCl2 and not FeCl3

Iron reacts with HCl to form FeCl2 and H2. Fe+2HCl→FeCl2+H2

The resultant H2 which is produced prevents the oxidation of FeCl2 to FeCl3.
