Question

An AC circuit has a very small band width. What should be the resistance of the circuit?

Solution

Bandwidth:

  1. The bandwidth of a circuit can be defined as the total number of cycles below and above the resonant frequency to the frequency where the current is equal to or greater than 0.707 times the resonant value.
  2. It can be mathematically expressed as BW=0.707Imax, where Imax is maximum current.
  3. Also, current in a circuit is equal to I=VR, where V is voltage and R is resistance.
  4. Therefore, when the resistance is low in the AC circuit, the bandwidth is narrow.

Hence, for a very small bandwidth, the resistance of the circuit should be low.
