  1. Kingdom – Animalia
  2. Phylum – Arthropoda
  3. Class - Insecta
  4. Some of the general characteristics of the butterflies are as follows–
    1. Two pairs of membranous(transparent) wings are present that are covered with tiny scales providing colour, rigidity, and strength.
    2. Large compound eyes are also present having their own refractive system and forming their own part of the image.
    3. Antenna present.
    4. Mouthparts are formed like a sucking tube called as proboscis via elongation of galeae.
  5. So, butterflies are considered as insects.
