Question

Are polythene and PVC examples of thermosetting plastic?

Open in App
Solution

Thermosetting plastic:

  1. These are basically the polymers which just undergo the permanent change on the heating and become hard so can not be reused further.
  2. They do not get soften on heating and also used for resisting the heat.
  3. Examples for thermosetting plastic: Bakelite, melamine and is used for the formation of handles of utensils, electrical plugs, toys etc.
  4. On the other hand, thermoplastic consists of the polymers that can easily be softened when heated repeatedly and hardened when cooled.
  5. They can also be melted and formed a fluid which can actually be moulded into any desirable shape.
  6. Examples of thermoplastic: PVC, polyethene etc. as they are soft and easily moulded unlike thermosetting ones.

Hence, No polyethene and PVC are not the examples of thermosetting plastic.
