Atomic orbitals in terms of increasing energy can be carried out as follows-
- Writing the shells one below the other (in Column) of increasing ‘n’ value and the subshells in the same row
- Drawing a slanting arrow, from top to bottom and ending on a newβsβ orbital every time.
- On reaching the s- subshell, repeating the process with a new arrow.
- Writing, the subshells, in the order of the moving arrow.
The subshells, in the order, of increasing energy will be as follows:
1s 2s 2p 3s 3p 4s 3d 4p 5s 4d 5p 6s 4f 5d 6p 7s 5f 6d 7p 8s 5g 6f 7d 8p.
