Calculate the mean of first n natural numbers?

Answer: (n+1)/2

  • Natural numbers are part of the number system that comprises all the positive integers from 1 to infinity and are often used for the purpose of counting.
  • Zero not include in natural numbers. In reality, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9…. are known as counting numbers.
  • Natural numbers are real numbers, which only contain positive integers, i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4,5,6, ………. With zero, fractions, decimals, and negative numbers excluded.

The natural numbers are 1, 2, 3, 4,5…….

The mean of the natural numbers can be calculated using the formula

Mean = Sum of the observations/ Number of observations

Let us calculate the sum of the natural numbers

The sum of the first four natural numbers are

⇒ 1 + 2 + 3 + 4

⇒ 10

⇒ 4(4 +1)/2

The sum of the first five natural numbers are

⇒ 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5

⇒ 15

⇒ 5(5 + 1)/2

The sum of the n natural numbers is

⇒ 1+ 2+ 3+ 4+……..+n

⇒ n(n+1)/2

Mean = n(n+1)/2/n

Mean = n(n+1)/2n

Mean = (n+1)/2
