Calculate the molecular mass of hydrogen bromide (HBr). (Atomic masses:H = 1 u; Br= 80 u)

Open in App
Solution

Calculation of molecular mass of hydrogen bromide (HBr)

  • Molecular mass is the sum of the masses of all the individual atoms present in a molecule or compound.
  • Hydrogen Bromide is an acid whose chemical formula is HBr.
  • Atomic mass of hydrogen( H ) = 1 u.
  • Atomic mass of bromine (Br) = 79.9 u.

Molar mass of HBr

=(Atomicmassofhydrogen×1)+(Atomicmassofbromine×1)=(1×1)+(79.9×1)=80.9u

Hence the molar mass of HBr = 80.9 u.
