Check which of the following are solutions of an equation x - 2y = 4.

(a) (0, 2)

(b) (2, 0)

(c) (4, 0)

(d) (√2, 4√2)

Solution:

Given equation is x – 2y = 4….(i)

Substitute given values in the equation and check.

(a) x – 2y = 4

0 – 4 ≠ 4

So (0, 2) is not a solution of (i).

(b) x- 2y = 4

2- 2(0) ≠ 4

(2, 0) is not a solution of (i).

(c) x – 2y = 4

4 – 2(0) = 4

(4, 0) is a solution of (i).

(d) x – 2y = 4

√2 – 2(4√2) = -7√2 ≠ 4

 (√2, 4√2) is not a solution of (i).

Hence option c is the answer.
