Question

Chemosynthetic bacteria obtain energy from…..?

Open in App
Solution

Chemosynthetic bacteria obtained energy from inorganic substances.

These bacterias are autotrophic as they are also obtaining energy by themselves. They are also called cleansers of the earth as they feed on dead and decaying material and release simple gases from them.

Most of the chemosynthetic bacteria are aerobic in nature as they use oxygen for oxidising the materials but some the bacteria like (Sulphuricurvum khjiense) are anaerobic also.

Basically, bacterias break the bonds to release the substances and while breaking bonds energy is released which is used by bacteria for their metabolic needs.

Due to their ability to feed on dead and decaying material they can survive in different habitats like in highly acidic or basic mediums etc.

All the autotropic living organisms basically belong to the eukaryotic world but chemosynthetic bacterias are the members of the prokaryotic world.
