Chlorophyll, a green pigment found in chloroplasts, is an important part of the light-dependent reactions. Chlorophyll absorbs red and blue light from the sun converting it into chemical energy but chloroplast is a part where photosynthesis takes place. Grana are structures present in the chloroplast made of stacks of flattened discs called thylakoids. Thylakoids contain the photosystems within which photosynthetic pigments are present. Chloroplasts are present in the cells of all green tissues of plants and algae.
