Solution

Understanding the reactions:

Reaction of metal oxide and hydrogen gas:

  • Metal oxide has a high tendency to react with water and gets reduced into metal and hydrogen is oxidized to water.
  • oH2(g)Hydrogen+MmOo(sMetalOxide)mM(s)Metal+oH2O(l)Water

Reaction of carbon monoxide with hydrogen gas:

  • The mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen gas is called syn gas or synthesis gas, as it is used to synthesize many hydrocarbons.
  • Carbon monoxide reacts with hydrogen to form methanol.
  • CO(g)Carbonmonoxide+2H2(g)HydrogenCH3OH(l)Methanol

Reaction of Propane with water:

  • Propane reacts with water in the presence of an acid such as sulfuric acid to form carbon monoxide and hydrogen gas is released as a by-product.
  • C3H8(g)Propane+3H2O(g)Water3COCarbonmonoxide+7H2(gHydrogen)

Reaction of Zinc with Sodium Hydroxide:

  • Zinc metal reacts with Sodium Hydroxide solution to form Sodium Zincate and Hydrogen gas is released as a byproduct.
  • Zn(s)Zinc+NaOH(aq)SodiumhydroxideNa2ZnO2Sodiumzincate+H2Hydrogen
