Question

Conjugate of x+iy is

Open in App
Solution

Complex conjugate of x+iy.

  • We know that every complex number is associated with another complex number called its complex conjugate.
  • The real part of the complex conjugate is the same as the original complex number, whereas the imaginary part is also the same as the original complex number, but with the opposite sign.
  • Therefore, if z=x+iy be a complex number, then x-iy is defined to be the complex conjugate of z, and is denoted by z¯.
  • For example, the complex conjugate of 2+3i is 2-3i.

Hence, the conjugate of x+iy is x-iy.
