Question

Define degree of a polynomial with its types

Open in App
Solution

Degree of a polynomial:

The highest or greatest degree of a variable in a polynomial is called the degree of a polynomial.

Examples of the degree of a polynomial:

2x2+2x-364=0, here the degree is 2

11x7+2×3-34x-86=0, here the degree is 7.

The polynomial with different degrees are assigned different names.

For example:

The degree 0 is called constant polynomial
The degree 1 is called linear polynomial
The degree 2 is called quadratic polynomial
The degree 3 is called cubic polynomial
The degree 4 is called quadratic polynomials.

Hence, these are the types of degrees of polynomial.
