2. This is a spontaneous action against a stimulus without thinking.
3. An effector receives electrical impulses through the motor neuron. A response is produced by the effector.
4. For example, we adjust our eyes when exposed to bright light.
5. The peripheral nervous system (PNS) is a system of nerves that connect the central nervous system (CNS) (includes the brain and spinal cord) with other parts of the body.
6. Reflex action is the result of the coordination of the spinal cord and peripheral nervous system.
7. This action does not involve the brain. The pathway in which impulses travel during the reflex action is called a reflex arc.

The components of the reflex arc are:

1. Receptor
2. Sensory neurons
3. Association neurons
4. Motor neurons
5. Effector.
